Dubai Loop Project: The Future of Underground Transportation in Dubai

The Dubai Loop Project is one of the most ambitious urban transportation initiatives ever launched in the UAE.
Developed through a strategic partnership between Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and
Elon Musk’s The Boring Company, the Dubai Loop aims to redefine how people move across the city using
high-speed underground electric vehicles.

Announced during the World Governments Summit, the project positions Dubai as a global leader in futuristic,
sustainable, and smart mobility infrastructure.

What Is the Dubai Loop Project?

The Dubai Loop is an underground tunnel-based transportation system designed to transport passengers
using electric vehicles beneath the city’s busiest districts. Unlike traditional metro systems, the Loop focuses on
point-to-point travel, significantly reducing journey times and surface traffic congestion.

The project is inspired by The Boring Company’s successful tunnel system in Las Vegas and will be the company’s
largest deployment outside the United States.

Phase 1 Route & Stations

The first phase of the Dubai Loop will connect some of the busiest commercial and tourist zones in the city,
including:

• DIFC 2
• ICD Brookfield Place
• Zabeel Dubai Mall Parking
• Burj Khalifa / Dubai Mall Area

According to reports, travel time between DIFC and Dubai Mall could be reduced from nearly 20 minutes to under
3 minutes.

How the Dubai Loop Works

Advanced Tunnel Technology

The Loop uses compact tunnel boring machines that create smaller diameter tunnels, reducing construction cost,
speeding up execution, and minimizing surface disruption.

Electric Vehicles

Passengers will travel inside electric vehicles operating within the tunnels. Initially, vehicles will be
driver-operated, with future plans to shift toward autonomous driving.
